Our booked room with two queen beds had one? Not even water bottles to buy for coffee in the room, so tap water coffee with powdered creamer, although bottled water is free outside the room? They do not make up the rooms, and no one told us this!!! I’ve never heard of such a thing…again, isn’t this a service industry? Rude bartenders, as in more than two, who “deign” to wait on you. What kind of service industry does that…lazy, and not in their best interest. The hotel budged not a bit, so we paid two nights of an empty room, when the hotel was fully booked, and could have sold that empty room out.

The trails, gardens, and lower level of the building are not open to the public. The outdoor trails and gardens include plants that are culturally significant to Dakota people and are to be used by SMSC Members only. The gift shop also shares its space with the SMSC library, so guests should be mindful of those around them. The Hoċokata Ti gift shop features a variety of Native-made art, books, music, beaded and quilled items, and craft supplies that build upon the cultural center’s mission to educate visitors about the Dakota people. Tours are offered to guests, where an assortment of Dakota Sioux artifacts can be viewed in the public gallery. Hoċokata Ti’s 3,805-square-foot public exhibit, called Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake, provides visitors with a cultural experience that enhances their knowledge and understanding of the Mdewakanton Dakota people and their history. Hoċokata Ti is the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s (SMSC) cultural center and gathering space that is used to interpret and encourage traditional Mdewakanton Dakota cultural heritage, language, and history by sustaining this inherent knowledge for SMSC Members through exhibitions, preservation, and education.
